Laid back, friendly and easily accessible, Negril has something for everyone.
Negril is located on the westernmost tip of Jamaica...the sunset side of Jamaica.
The weather is subtropical, with daytime temp.of 85 degrees Fahrenheit most of the year.
Only a few decades ago telephones and TV's were unheard of. Today you will find a variety of accommodations from simple
fan cooled cottages to super all-inclusive resorts, yet Negril still retains it's casual laid back feeling.
Buildings can not be constructed taller than the tallest palm tree and protecting the environment is a big priority with established Marine parks
and a Royal Palm Reserve.
Negril's famous seven mile beach is one of the finest in the world. Just south of
Negril's beach is the fossilized six mile coral reef cliffs of the West End, location for the filming of James Bond's Thunderball.
Walking the seven mile white sand beach is a favorite pastime.
Most resorts welcome guests to drop in for a drink or meal.
Activities:
The Caribbean Sea in its palette of turquoise is warm, calm, transparent and perfect for all water sports..snorkeling,
hobie cats, banana boats, water trampolines, kayaks, sunfish sailing, scuba diving, water skiing, jet skiing, paddleboats, glass bottom boats and para sailing.
Water sports, dive shops, and catamaran tours are available at many points along the beach or cliffs.
Booby Cay, just off the mainland, is an island perfect for picnics, exploring and snorkeling excursions.
You can snorkel right off the cliffs in the secluded coves or just lie back and watch the incredible sunsets.
Restaurants:
With over 100
restaurants featuring Jamaican specialties, fresh fish, jerk chicken, vegetarian or international fare,
you'll be well dined. Be certain to purchase fresh fruit available on the beach or cliffs from the fruit stands
like Rose and Millicent's near Chances restuarant.
Shopping:
Shopping for crafts, sarongs, art, jewellery or duty free is an enjoyable experience as well as receiving an hour long massage
or having your hair braided by the very experienced women on the beach. Remember to barter at the craft market or with beach and cliff vendors.
Entertainment:
Most of the entertainment is like the rest of Negril..casual and fun.
Try the cliff jumping at Rick's Cafe.
Jamaicans love music! Be sure to visit one of the many clubs featuring live reggae music. Most get going after 9 p.m. when the band sets up.
Soon you're dancing on the sand 'til the wee hours of the morning.
Lot's of fun and a good mix of locals and tourists or dance the night away at The Jungle, Negril's premier night club.
Getting Around:
If you don't care to walk, bicycles, scooters, motorbikes, jeeps and cars are easily available.
Taxis are plentiful and not expensive. Just start walking and one will appear.
Roads are narrow so listen for horns. Jamaicans honk to let you know they are approaching.
If you are visiting the west end of Negril (the cliffs) ..there is a free "One Love Drive" shuttle bus ..call 876 874-6631 to book a ride! Margaritaville offers a free bus on the beach road. Call 957-4467 to book a ride.
Visitors mingle with locals probably more so in Negril than in other
resort areas so get out and enjoy this island paradise and her friendly people!
Just remember to remain "Irie" because in Jamaica there's "no problem"
